Over the Moon

Hi!

I’m Katey Moon; I’ve been in Savannah for over a decade now. I taught myself watercolor and encaustic not long after moving here. I love mediums that can be tricky to control; mostly due to the way I work. I’m spontaneous in creation and generally let the work make itself… I play until I see something forming and then build on that. It’s an incredibly intuitive and often emotional way to create.

Each piece is a part of my soul, a day dream, a nightmare, a romantic notion, a fantasy…whatever you want to make of it.

I’ve dabbled in many mediums as most artists do but I tend to focus on watercolor. Its a wonderfully complicated yet forgiving medium.

If you don’t know what encaustic is; its a form of painting with beeswax and resin. It dates back to ancient Egypt and is the most archival thing you can do. Meaning you could put an encaustic piece in a window for years and it wouldn’t yellow or fade. The way the beeswax dries is very unpredictable, sometimes its clear sometimes it fogs, which gives a lovely ethereal quality.
